Journal: Will you vote in the upcoming elections? Why or why not?

Hmm..... Yep! December kids don't get to have this right this year and have to wait four years. So Hell yes, since I am a September kid, just turned 18, finally have the right to vote! I'm taking advantage of this awesome right, the first year I get to vote, and the fact that this is a HUGE deal!
To some extent I am very weary of how my vote will be counted. I haven't registered yet and I am very nervous about which party I should register with. Should I vote with the Democratic party? or the Libertarian Party at which I agree to more? If I don't sign up with either the Democratic Party or Republican Party, will my vote even count???

It is a privledge, not a forced obligation to vote, should I exercise my right as an American to Not vote? In the least, I will vote because I care about Proposition 8 - The right to Same Sex Marriage. For goodness sakes, Same Sex marriage has already been passed, and has gone through the Supreme Court, passed by 4 Supreme Court Judges, not just 1. Can't we just deal with it?

I want to vote against development and research all Propositions in order to see what I want passed or not. That in reality, is why I want to vote. I think that the presidential part of the election is so negative these days, and by the way I would vote for Obama. Because what kind of sick person i.e Sarah Palin WOULD FINE VICTIMS WHO HAVE BEEN RAPED FOR GETTING A RAPE KIT!!!!!!!?? (As is Alaska's policy a la Sarah Palin)
WHAT KIND OF JERK WOULD TRY TO SOLEY ABOLISH A FEMALE'S RIGHT TO ABORTION!!!! (As a female, she doesn't have to agree with abortion, but, let it be a female's choice, or in the very least, make sure it is a state by state issue) (Mcain's vice prez cantidate wants to ablolish the right to abortion in the entire U.S, not just state by state no ifs ands or butts) "I can see Russia from my house!" -Sarah Palin

At least, even though they're guys, and they can't physically have a kid themselves, neither Obama or Biden have this kind of sick, selfish view in mind.

I am equal in my judgement of both cantidates, but when you take away a specific gender's rights just because you personally can't deal with it, I am against you. That is the type of person that would make a selfish vice-president.

Overall, point is, I am passionate about politics and even though it's minute, I want my vote to add up to an opinion I care about.

Journal: What is an American?

An American is a person who may be able to speak a second language or many others, but SPEAKS ENGLISH!!!!! If you can't or won't learn, then don't live here. If your visiting, that's fine, but, don't live here if you won't learn English.
Many immigrants have made foundations, buisness's, families, careers, etc etc
but, Learn English and drive on the correct side of the road.
That we follow in America if you live here.

Otherwise, if you can't follow or try following these two things these while you LIVE here. Then you are not an American, nor have you become one.

I would say an American is Patriotic, but, know what? You don't have to be, in theory you can say what you want here, we have "Free Speech" and have basic constitutional rights as a human being in America. (Many though, like me, would debate that in this modern society, our rights have been tweaked.)

An American has a social security number. If you don't, and you were born here, you are likley under 18 and will get one at 18.

If you are an American, it is likley you wear jeans. (However, of course there are exceptions, as an American, you have the right to wear whatever you choose... Don't you?) (Really?, I mean, except basically, no one can wear a bandanna though because of "Gangs and gang colors", or is it all part of fear tactics?)

If you are American, you have rights.

Americans have opinions, some pessimistic, some strong, some optimistic.
But it is likley, you are an American if you are strongly opinionated, and are not afraid to voice them to government or the public around you or across the states.
(Not to say that other countries don't have brave, strong, opinionated people,
but under the Constitutional Amendment America was founded on "The American People have the right to free speech" and therefore, hopefully, never have to fear violence imposed upon us by our own government because we verbally, or wrote and voice our opinions)

PSA Response

Wow! This one was interesting. As opposed to all the vote or else videos. This video of a man standing against a wall with words and his own dialogue telling why he doesn't want to vote made sense. That he didn't vote for a person who made something wrong is one reason not to vote. At the same time, its a basic right to vote, yet, it's a privledge, not mandatory and this is America. No one should be threatened or guilt tripped into voting when afterall, this is a free country and people have free will. By not voting your exercising your rights in America, as are the people the people who are voting.

This PSA makes an excellent point, but, as an amatuer, and personal video, this was windy in the background and you could barley hear him, that's just poor editing on their part and it makes the video have less of an impact then it should, it should have power in it. Also, the guy is too far away from the camera and not centered so the whole thing is distracting.

But, overall, I see the point in it and am actually shocked that someone finally made this point and had the guts to say it out loud. HOORAH! For free speech! :D
